Field Trip to Howth

This morning a few other internationals from Blackrock and I took the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) to Howth-a small fishing Village located on a peninsula north of Dublin.

Shortly after arriving, we met up with other UCD students from the University of Illinois.  We began our search for a castle near the coast. Most notably, the trek included walking directly through a golf course, which apparently happens all the time, as none of the golfers so much as looked up as all 20 of us passed through the green.

After getting lost a few times as well as asking a few locals, we found the castle.

We then decided to hike up to the summit of the mountain located in the peninsula.  None of us were prepared for the level of wilderness/gradient which ensued:

We returned to the village to get some lunch.  All 20 of us got the "Haddock Meal" It was amazing

Fish n Chips
After lunch, we wandered around a Farmer's Market.  Naturally, I bought cupcakes

We had some time before the next train arrived, so we walked out onto the pier and got hot chocolates.

Howth is a city that seems untouched by time in some ways.  It's incredible to me that such a place is so easily accessible from the city.  After today's excursion, I am even more excited to discover the rest of Ireland.
